Part of my cowboy research has been watching a lot of movies, and it seems like all they served in cowboy bars (AKA “saloons”) is whiskey.
I like whiskey as much as the next non-cowboy, but I’m not sure I could drink it exclusively. I like a nice round of 40 hands, a cold beer after a good mid-week coffee break, maybe some boxed wine on a date.
Plus, ripping shots non-stop seems like a good way to forget where you parked your horse.
I feel like the whiskey makers had a stronghold on the cowboy bars, like how you can only get Coke at McDonalds. Maybe now, modern cowboys can order a nice marg, or a Long Island Iced Tea, and not hear the piano stop playing (meaning a fights com in’).
The only way to find out is to get out there, see what’s what. There’s a bar I know of nearby with saloon doors, maybe that’s the place to start.
